SALEM ARGAW

My name is Salem Argaw. I was born in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, East Africa. I moved to the United States when I was ten years old and have had the opportunity to visit since. The culture, the language, the food is still apart of my daily life. My family speaks Amharic at home and my parents have intentionally kept the ties to our culture alive. I believe that there is great value in recognizing and understanding the individual cultures that formulate the large African continent. Africa is made up of a multitude of cultures, each unique and each beautiful. When oblivion lumps the continent into one “country,” this beauty is threatened. Yet, as often stated there is power in education, so let us—who know our continent—teach you of it.
