The first image that comes to mind when I think of Africa, specifically Ghana, is home. There is no place like home. I often tell people that there is an irrational aspect about my attachment to Ghana. There is something about the air, the water, and the people that creates a feeling in me that cannot be replicated anywhere else. Even I was not aware of this feeling until I came to the United States in order to go to school. I realize now how strongly tied my identity is to Ghana as a result of my ‘self-imposed exile’, and I am thankful for that.
